4 reasons why Monk Fruit will be your new (skinny) Best Friend

So we are not sure if you are across Monk Fruit but we think it’s a pretty big deal.

We wanted to create LUKA without refined sugar but also without the very distinctive and unpleasant sweetness of stevia. On our conquest we found monk fruit and could not believe how incredible this superfood is.

Termed the ‘Longevity fruit’ for decades by Traditional Chinese Medicine, see below the top FOUR reasons we feel that Monk Fruit will become your new (skinny) best friend, and how it compliments LUKA so perfectly.

1. Weight Loss

We all love a weight loss hack and monk fruit seems to understand. Monk Fruit extract has zero calories, no carbohydrates, does not raise blood glucose levels AND is anti inflammatory making it very ‘appetising’ if you are trying to lose weight. It is 100–250 times sweeter than regular sugar and unlike other fruits, monk fruit extract does not contain the infamous fructose or glucose that have so widely been associated with weight gain.

A 2016 study published by the Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics also found that Monk fruit helped to regulate fat metabolism. The study revealed that its ‘mogrol’ component helped to significantly minimise the ability of the body to add general fat mass. SOLD!

2. Gut health

One of the main reasons we don't like to consume too much sugar is because it feeds the bad bacteria in the gut resulting in digestive and immunity issues. Having both suffered with gut issues and Candida overgrowth ourselves we know we cant consume sugar but really struggle not to!!! This is why monk fruit has become our saviour. Due to its natural microbial agent, monk fruit stops the growth of unwanted microbes by providing helpful anti-microbial properties that maintain the correct bacterial balance in the gut. Artificial sugars and sweeteners feed the unfriendly bacteria in the gut like Candida albicans while the sugar from monk fruit promotes a healthy gut by providing friendly bacteria such as L. casei, B. bifidum, L. salivarius, and L. acidophilus. It also means we can satisfy our sweet tooth without feeding our gut issues!

3. Natural antihistamine

We suffer allergies and they are reeeeallllyy irritating so we were very pleased to find out that the daily use of monk fruit can provide natural relief from seasonal allergies.

Our bodies are always trying to mediate our ‘histamine response’ to fight foreign invaders and this ‘histamine response’ often results in inflammatory reactions such as hayfever like symptoms  - sneezing, runny nose and sinus or swelling when bitten by an insect. Studies show that Monk fruit works as an all-natural, mild antihistamine, and has been proven to reduce swelling from allergic irritations. It also contains Vitamin C that also reduces histamine levels!

4. Reduces Colds, sore throats and coughs

The same substance that gives monk fruit its sweetness is the one that holds its anti-inflammatory properties. The monk fruit antioxidant mogrosides are praised for the way they protect the body from tissue damage by free radicals. The fruit has been used for centuries in traditional Chinese medicine to make hot drinks to treat a sore throat, remove a cough and reduce phlegm. These antiinflammatory properties are ideal for the prevention of many diseases such as cancer, arthritis, and digestive problems. This is why we will be loading up on our LUKA in the colder months…..

Pretty good right? We knew you would agree!
